A partially purified soluble extract containing an FMN-dependent luciferase and an NADH- and NADPH-dependent FMN reductase. The system emits light in the presence of FMN, NADH or NADPH, and n-decanal.

Applications
Luciferase from Vibrio fischeri has been used to study the kinetics of light emission and oxygen consumption in bioluminescent bacteria. It has also been applied in investigations of the sensitivity of dark mutants of various luminous bacteria to reactive oxygen species.
